Cranberry Salad

Old fashioned cranberry salad is a perennial treat. It's an especially good way to use up an excessive amount of cranberries or cranberry sauce that may be on hand after the holiday season.

Ingredients

Fresh cranberries, 1 lb.
Water, 1/2 C.
Sugar, 1-1/2 C.

Mix and cook until cranberries are soft. Remove from heat.

Raspberry Jello, 1 box
Water 1/2 C. boiling

Stir together and add Jello to cranberries.

Chopped celery, 1 C.
Chopped apples, 1 C.
Crushed pineapple, 1 Small Can
Nuts (cook's choice), 1/2 C.

Mix well and chill.

Grandma Rogers added this note at the bottom of the recipe: "You can use 2 cans of cranberry sauce." (if you can't get fresh cranberries). Her husband, John, and she owned a grocery store, so I imagine she had a good idea that sometimes fresh wasn't available.
